THERAPEUTIC SERVICES

My approach includes using mindfulness, existentialism and psychoanalytic therapy approaches in encouraging clients towards authentic self-expression. Our work tighter will help you confront what is by increasing awareness of what contributes to how you are now and then how to cope with it.  Through our work together, you will be able to understand how your experiences, relationships, thoughts and feelings compose the beautiful symphony that is you.  Our sessions will be made up of talk therapy, mediation and mindfulness practice skill-building, as well as playful and creative inquiry into who you are.  I work with the understanding that things cannot always be changed so we will give you the strength, self-awareness and skill set to face what is.

I have twelve years of experience helping people reach their most authentic selfhood using existential therapy, mindfulness-based practices and psychoanalytic therapy.  This really means that I help people explore and understand how their life experiences affect who they are in this very moment.  We will use mindfulness to explore the “mount” through body awareness and other skills, as well as use mindfulness for distress management.  You will be able to bring these skills into your daily life to use whenever you need to calm down or manage stress.

 

As a visual artist, I understand the blocks and disruptions that come up when we tell ourselves we need to be “productive”.  And forget what it means to be creative.  I strongly believe that these blocks do not just apply to artists but to everyone who experiences stress and the pressure to “be productive “ every minute of every day.  It’s too much!  I will teach you how to laugh and play and find delight in your daily experiences.  By doing this, you can slow down and, again, be with yourself in order find out who you truly are.

EXISTENTIAL PSYCHOANALYTIC THERAPY

This developmental theory is the first part of my three part holistic approach. Through existential psychoanalytic therapy you will be able to see yourself in terms of how you respond to your relationships and experiences throughout your lifespan and how they affect your current way of being.  Together we will uncover personal patterns, emotional reactions and other states of mind that affect how you are now in order for you to gain a better understanding into who you are.  By doing so, you will gain a new sort of self-awareness to help you manage what is true for you now.  Sometimes that means changing a way of being but often times it also means tolerating what cannot be changed.

MINDFULNESS BASED THERAPIES

EXPRESSIVE ARTS THERAPIES

“Expressive Arts” simply means using all the art modalities in therapy.  This is a way of using our creative self to gain insight through movement, image making and other ways of interacting with the world that do not necessarily involve regular “talk therapy”.  As a visual artist, I am most conversant in visual art media and we may use art making in sessions as a wy of exploring whatever issue might arise in that particular session or have been coming up in therapy overall.  You may also have “creative homework”.  This means using an arts modality therapeutically in your daily life outside of session.  The purpose of this is for you to be able to access another way of interacting with “it” in order to gain a new perspective or open up new ways of being.
