VITAL CREATIVITY WORKSHOP
Creative Recovery Based on The Artist’s Way
Hello! I’m excited to share a new workshop I am holding starting January 2026! Vital Creativity is a 12 week course for creatives, caregivers and anyone who is feeling paralyzed and struggling with what to do during a time when even self-expression seems commodified. We will use the format of Julia Cameron’s The Artist’s Way; the creative recovery program that has helped thousands of people find their own creative paths over the last 30 years. We are going to go deeper though. By using philosophy and psychotherapeutic theories around creativity and our relationship with each other, ourselves and even the earth, we will bring it into 2026 by addressing issues that affect our selves and our worlds right here and now. Also, we’ll discuss what we can do about it by seeing our own creativity as a way of being.
This is a creative recovery so we’ll be making a lot of art, taking a lot of time to develop embodied practice as well as just have fun playing! Each class will consist of an opening creative arts warm-up and then a short talk and discussion. There will be space to make your own art during class as well as prompts to be creative on your own. After you have time to make art, we’ll come back and talk a little bit before closing each meeting with a short closing exercise. You will have homework, based on The Artist’s Way as well as have the opportunity to present toward the end of the workshop.
Therapists, like me, will get a lot out of this workshop as we will cover theories and topics relevant to psychotherapy including existential and object relational (pre-IFS) theories as well as mindfulness and, of course, expressive arts directives that you can use with your clients. However, you do not need to be a therapist to have a transformative experience. This workshop is designed for anyone who cares about our world, who feels stunned and stuck, to feel inspired and rejuvenated by their own creativity. You will reignite or ignite your creative energy and maybe understand a little bit more deeply the way that things are that they are.
Please, share with friends and colleagues! We’ll be meeting virtually so everyone is welcome! Anyone that’s interested may email me at the address below.
Warmly,
Shannon Reynolds. LMHC
